Women's Resource Network Hosts Successful Women's Service Day in Southeast Michigan

  • Thousands of diapers, lovingly prepared for infants in need.
  • 114 people received food for the week.
  • 3,400lbs of food packed, ready to give at a moment’s notice.

These are just some of the stories shared from Southeast Michigan charitable organizations that recently benefitted from Women’s Service Day (WSD). The annual WSD event started in 2002 in West Michigan, and benefits organizations that serve women and children. This year, Women’s Service Day expanded to Southeast Michigan for the second year in a row thanks to members of our employee resource group, the Women’s Resource Network (WRN).

“When WRN members like myself relocated from our Holland, Michigan, office to our North America Headquarters in Novi, we realized there wasn’t an established event like Women’s Service Day” shared WRN member, event organizer, and Project Leader, Kara Lamson. “We partnered with the West-side Women’s Service Day to ensure there is alignment across the initiative and they have been incredibly supportive of our event!”

Volunteers in SE Michigan partnered with C.A.R.E.S. Farmington HillsCrossroads of MichiganEarthworks Urban FarmFood Gatherers, and the Michigan Council of Women in Technology (MCWT).

Event organizer and WRN leader, Priya Gurumurthy, shared that after this year’s WSD event, she felt purpose knowing that she was able to help others in need, and feel the power of women coming together for a bigger cause and impact.

“We are BEYOND thrilled with the impact of Women’s Service Day! We had two goals this year – hit 100 hours of volunteering and expand beyond YF employees,” said Product Engineer, event organizer and WRN member, Morgan Benjamin. “35 volunteers provided 98 hours of service, and 3 local businesses joined us. Our small committee worked hard and stayed optimistic throughout – and it paid off!”

In 2023, the Women’s Resource Network hopes to expand its reach to include even more women, service hours, and community organizations.
