Job Description

Job Summary

The Customer Quality Engineer (CQE) is responsible for managing customer-facing quality activities, ensuring compliance with customer-specific requirements, and driving effective resolution of customer quality issues. This role servesas the primary quality interface between the plant and the customer, leading problem-solving efforts, coordinating cross-functional containment and corrective actions, and maintaining strong customersatisfaction metrics.

 

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary quality contact for assigned customers (OEMs and/or Tier‑1 customers). 
  • Receive, investigate, and respond to customerquality concerns including complaints, rejects, ppm issues, and warranty issues. 
  • Lead and coordinate containment activities, including sorting, rework, and controlled shipments as required. 
  • Manage customer portals ensuring timely and accurate responses.
  • Lead 8D / 5‑Why / Fishbone / A3 problem-solving activities for customer issues. 
  • Ensure root cause analysis and robust corrective actions are implemented and verified for effectiveness. 
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams (Production, Engineering, Maintenance, Supplier Quality, Logistics). 
  • Track and close corrective actions per customer-required timelines.
  • Ensure compliance with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and applicable Customer-Specific Requirements(CSRs) 
  • Support customer audits, product/process audits, and quality reviews. 
  • Maintain customer scorecards and monitor key customer KPIs (PPM, delivery quality, issue response time).
  • Support quality activities duringnew program launches, engineering changes, and process modifications. 
  • Participate in PFMEA, Control Plan reviews, and PPAP submissions as needed. 
  • Ensure customer notification and approval requirements are met for changes impacting quality.
  • Experience with ISO/QS/TS Quality Systems is required. Lead Auditor certification is highly desirable. 
  • Experience in Advanced Quality Planning including strong proficiency with the AIAG Advanced Quality Planning and Control Plan, FMEAs, PPAPs, MSA and Statistical Process Control (SPC) standards. 
  • Experience workingdirectly with customers and suppliers, particularly automotive related.
  • Knowledge of statistical concepts, design of experiments and problem-solving methodology is required.
  • Knowledge and experience in Lean Manufacturing methods is highly desirable. 
  • Proficient in use of a computer and common office software (i.e. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills,including ability to work in a self-directed environment.
  • Good mechanical/technical skills and ability to read engineering drawings are desirable. GD&T proficiency is highly desirable. 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, including experience preparing problem solving documents such as 8D’s.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in quality, Engineering, or Science related field with 5+ years of related work experience.
  • American Society for Quality certification, such as current CQE status, is highly desirable.
