Technical Manager

Job Description

Technical Manager is an integral to the overall development and success of their workplaces. Manage & Lead the Technical Side of the Operation.  This Includes all Engineering (Manufacturing, Process, and Industrial) as well as Technical Support Functions (e.g. Maintenance, Tooling, Special Projects, etc.). 
This also includes but not limited to Current (J.I.T. or Batch) Production, Product Launch, Process Launch, Technical Strategy and Downtime reduction.

MainResponsibilities: 

  • Manages and leads technical team including: IE, PE,ME, tooling, and maintenance teams.
  • Responsible for technical related continuous improvement and all Engineering KPI’s listed in the Manufacturing excellence glide path. (.e.g cycle times, PM’s, scrap, quality, material cost reduction, regrind implementation, etc.)
  • Participate inthe creation of the Operational Plan and will have specific areas of accountability in its execution.
  • Responsible for reporting personnel evaluations; accessing effectiveness of technical abilities, team working skills, leadership potential while providing career guidance / Smart Goals in-line with Operational Plans ( I.e.: Cost Reduction Goals, Quality-Delivery-Cost of Launch Performance, Safety, On-time Evals.)
  • Reviews, mentors and establishes contingencies / justifications for: CAR's, Capital Budget Expenditures, Personnel/Salary plans.
  • Provides input for Business Operating System changes while; maintaining an active involvement in the auditing process.
  • Models an appropriate leadership behavior (I.e.: Mentoring/Coaching through groups or 1 on 1's, influential within supporting groups and operations, walks their (well planned) talk,   accepts and encourages diversity in skills / culture, maintains accountability consistently. 
  • Can effectively develop personnel in technical execution, planning and decision making which can impact the business financials.
  •  Follows established action plans for processesout of range
  • Specifies project management and buy off of new equipment 
  • Work with tool shops for all tool repair and maintenance
  • Maintains documentation closely following necessary timeliness on specific projects
  • Enforce safety rules daily. Noncomplianceof safety rules requires support with HR on disciplinary action and/or termination.
  • Actively intervene to correct recognized unsafe actions and conditions.
  • Conduct daily observations of PPE use and safe work practices adherence and coach employees as needed.
  • Ensure that all accidents including first aid are reported.
  • Build credibility through continuous demonstration of safety as a value through their personal actions.
  • Ability to complete employee development plans, organize, communicate, and motivate employees.  Must be able to prioritize own work -day schedule
  • Schedules, coordinates and directs all necessary maintenance andconstruction work. Makes preliminary, intermediate and final inspection of maintenance and construction work to insure proper workmanship, materials and conformance to work methods and safety regulations
  • A technical manager meets with his senior management regularly and gives them his monthly budgets and project status. He may also meet with his counterparts, technical partners and customers
  • He conducts regular meetings with his teams, whether as a whole or through one-on-onediscussions. They provide each team member an objective or goal that they will monitor progress orstatus on throughout the year. They then conducts performance reviews of team members and gives themfeedback, as well as makes promotion recommendations or salary increases if and when applicable. The technical manager also posts job openings, conducts interviews and hires and fires employees.

Specific Requirements:

  • 8 to 10 years of experience, including three years in plastics processingand two years in production supervision
  • Ability to plan, organize, communicate, and motivate employees.  Must be able to prioritize own workday schedule
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to understand necessary safety procedures and precautions
  • Bachelor's Degree in Plastics Processing or Mechanical Engineering. 
  • Engineering Degree and five (5) to ten (10) years plastics processing required.
  • Preferred Six Sigma Green or Black Belt.
  • Proven leadership skills
