Job Description
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate expertise in steering wheel, driver, curtain, side, passenger and Kneeairbag systems – “best practice” designs, legal validation requirements, North American customer standards, current industry trends, and our competitors’ technology.
- Lead the design, validation, and release of steering wheel and airbag systems using the YF product development process.
- Ensures documents, processes and procedures are managedand maintained using all YFSS standards and systems (YFiOS, PMP, Lean, CPP, CMP, EPIC, BEP, etc.)
- Understand the YF customers’ engineering organization and build relationships with the key engineering and technology “decision makers”.
- Informcustomer engineering and YF leadership of significant launch, production or timing related issues (“no surprises”).
- Be the single point of customer contact on your programs.
- Work with Program Management to ensure engineering resources and budget goals are met from award through SOP.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
- Any and all other duties as assigned by your Manager.
Education:
- Minimum requirement: Bachelor’s Degree Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace or similar)
- Chinese and/ or Spanish language skills helpful, but not required
- PMP training or Program Management experience desired
Work Experience and Skills Required:
- 3-5+ years’ experience in the automotive industry, including at least two successful product launches – preferably with North American OEMs.
- Experience in steering wheel and/or airbag modules required.
- Experience with Driver Airbag preferred.
- Experience leading programs and teams with full engineering responsibility.
- Airbag module testing and performance analysis experience.
- Knowledge of plastic part design for injection molding.
- Knowledge of Injection Mold Tooling (gates, parting lines, action, etc.) as it relates to part design.
- Plastic resin and materials selection knowledge as related to airbag modules and steering wheel components.
- Ability to develop component and sub-assembly GD&T tolerancing and tolerance stack-up studies in support of manufacturing & craftsmanship goals.
- Knowledge of leather- and PUR wrapping processes and design limitations for steering wheels and driver airbags.
- Experience using CAE as adesign and product optimization tool.
- Ability to communicate in a professional and respectful manner in a team environment. Identify and address issues in a direct, “data driven” manner.
- Self-motivated and enthusiastic; “coaching” style.
- Available as needed fordomestic and international travel, up to 25%.
