Job summary:
The Environmental, Health, Safety and Security Director (EHS), North America leads the development of business processes and systems to identify and reduce or eliminate Environmental, Health, Safety and Security risks in North America region. The Director provides technical and legal support, business process development, the coordination of strategic and tactical planning with North America EHS leadership team and customers, and leadership for specific regional risk intervention programs. The Director will assist the global leadership team with setting long-termdirection for global safety programs and systems and provides support and leadership for specific Global EHS business processes and risk intervention programs.
Essential functions of the job:
- Ensure environmental due diligence is completed on time and in accordance with YFAI policy for acquisitions, divestitures and partnerships in North America.
- Monitor country specific proposed changes to EHS regulations, assess and communicate potential impact, and lead intervention programs as specific regulatory changes affect YFAI’s manufacturing footprint.
- Support North America EHS leadership in defining appropriate plant and regional EHS staffing, and in working with the operations and HR leadership teams to provide appropriate staffing.
- Ensure familiarity with and recommends action to keep the plant(s) in compliance with OSHA and other federal, state, local, and provincial health and safety laws.
- Support the developmentand roll-out of EHS data entry and reporting tools, including BBP and Business Objects systems, andthe utilization of EHSIS.
- Ensure employees, contractors, and vendors work practices are inregulatory compliance with OSHA, NFPA, and other regulatory agencies; as well as with company standards and policies.
- Oversee and provide direction, mentorship, training guidance and day-to-day management of the EHS team.
- Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
Required education:
- Degree in Occupational Health, Safety Management, SafetyEngineering, or Ergonomics, or equivalent experience.
Required experience:
- 10+ Minimum Years of Experience of EHS within a manufacturing/automotive environment.
- Relevant staff leadership experience is required (8 years).
- Proven ability to consistently improve EHS outcomes.
- Knowledge and experience with ISO 14001 andOHSAS 18001 systems.
- Experience with and ability to influence senior leaders and staff. Often uses influence to convince both internal/external parties that share a common desire to acceptnew concepts, practices, and approaches and frequently negotiates with a common desire to reach agreement on complete proposals/programs.
- Ability to solve problems that may be only vaguely defined and require understanding and consideration of other job areas.
- Safety, environmental, industrial hygiene and/ or ergonomics certification highly desired.
- Must be ableand willing to travel and work at customer sites, including industrial manufacturing plants which might require climbing, lifting, or working in confined spaces.
